About the unit

The service run out of Leighton Hospital is more than simply the provision of a Satellite Haemodialysis Unit facility. We are able to provide a Renal Failure Service and General Nephrology advice and follow-up sevice
to South Cheshire, northern North Staffordshire and some adjoining areas. Work is in close conjunction with the Main Unit at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke-on-Trent& Newcastle-under-Lyme where specialist investigation and inpatient facilities are located. Transplantation, either kidney only or combined kidney/pancreas, is carried out largely in conjunction with the Manchester Royal Infirmary Renal Transplant Unit. We also have links with University Hospital, Birmingham and University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire to support ABO-incompatible and antibody-depleted kidney transplantation. Patients also maintain links with Liverpool hospitals if previously transplanted there.
