About the unit

The Renal Service in Fife provides support to over 170 dialysis and 120 transplant patients.

The main Renal in-patient and out-patient facilities are based in Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

Out-patient haemodialysis is also performed in satellite units at Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline (9 stations) and St Andrews Community Hospital (8 Stations).

General Nephrology and CKD (Low Clearance) clinics are sited in all units and transplant clinics are held in Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy.

Peritoneal dialysis (mainly APD) training is done either in VHK or at home by the Community team who are based in Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

Transplantation is based in Edinburgh.


Research and special expertise

The unit participates in multi-centre studies such as SHARP and DOPPS.
