About the unit

Dialysis was first established in Sunderland in 1970 at Sunderland Royal Infirmary. After the closure of Sunderland Royal Infirmary The Department of Renal Medicine opened in 1997 at Sunderland District General Hospital now re-named Sunderland Royal Hospital. We currently treat acute and chronic patients from South Tyneside, Sunderland and Durham.
