About the unit

Spring 2016 - unfortunately we are unable to accept holiday bookings at present due to capacity pressures.

The Haemodialysis Unit opened at York Hospital in January 1999 and accepts patients from York, Selby, Harrogate, Malton, Pickering and surrounding areas. The unit is open Monday to Saturday from 7am - 11pm. We operate 3 dialysis shifts per day, one in the morning, one in the afternoon and an evening shift. We also have two satellite units in Harrogate and in Easingwold, an active PD service and a growing home haemodialysis programme. A dedicated team of renal nurses work very closely with all members of a multi disciplinary team to ensure that all patients receive a high quality clinical service.
This team includes: - consultant nephrologists and junior medical staff, dieticians, pharmacist, social workers, clinical psychologists, administrative staff, patient service assistants, technical support and physiotherapy.
The multi disciplinary team endeavours to provide a holistic approach to encompass individual patient needs in a friendly and supportive environment.

Research and special expertise

We have an active multi-disciplinary research team, working on a number of wide-ranging studies. Previous and current areas of interest include cardio-vascular management, the measurement and assessment of nutritional status in patients with CKD, research work involving rare disease and genetic factors and the management of CKD-Mineral Bone Disorder.
The research team support both CLRN portfolio and non portfolio work.
